About the Center

The Edmond J. Safra Brain Research Center for the Study of Learning Disabilities at the University of Haifa is a recognized leader of cutting-edge research in the field of learning disabilities in Israel and around the world. The Edmond J. Safra Center focuses in its various laboratories on the research of pre-learning skills, reading, writing, numbers, bilingualism and motor skills at normal and deviant expressions of development from early childhood to adulthood.

It is one of the few academic centers in the world that utilizes brain-based research using EEG-ERP, LORETA, fMRI, fNIR and Eye-Tracking methods. The aim is to educate a new generation of clinicians and researchers equipped with state-of-the-art theories, research, and applied knowledge. The center, together with the Department of Learning Disabilities in the Faculty of Education, offers the opportunity for MA and PhD students to conduct their research in its laboratories, and PhD and post-doctoral fellowships are available for outstanding students in the field.

Based on the belief that every child deserves equal educational opportunities, the Edmond J. Safra Center has developed a research-based Haifa Model for the diagnosis and remediation of learning disabilities in Hebrew- and Arabic-language schools around Israel. The goal is for this model to be adapted to other languages and used in schools around the world to help all children achieve their learning potential.

The Edmond J. Safra Center maintains active scientific collaborations with researchers and institutions from Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Finland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Canada, and the United States. The center regularly hosts leading researchers and graduate students from around the world for lectures, workshops, and international conferences.

The work of the Edmond J. Safra Brain Research Center for the Study of Learning Disabilities has been made possible by a research grant from the Edmond J. Safra Philanthropic Foundation.
